About our bakery
Clarke’s Pies is a renowned family-run wholesale bakery that has operated from its original premises in Mortlake, Victoria since 1949. We produce a range of well-loved pastry products including our famous square meat pie, flavoured pies, pasties, sausage rolls, party lines, family pies and slices.
Clarke’s Pies products can be bought throughout western Victoria and south-east South Australia. Make sure you look out for our iconic pie man logo when you are on the road, stopping in at your neighbourhood corner shop, fueling up at the servo, at the footy on the weekend or visiting the deli of your local supermarket.
The business is owned and operated by fourth-generation pie-maker, Nicole McLennan. Nicole and her partner Patrick took over from Nicole’s mother, Annette McLennan in 2019. She is very hands-on on the bakery floor, working alongside her brother Andrew and a small crew of locals, most of whom have grown up eating Clarke’s pies.


Our products

These delicious lines are sold to retail cafes, takeaway food outlets, supermarkets, sporting clubs, schools and other food organisations.

History
In 1949, Fred and Nellie Clarke started running the Clover Leaf Café in the center of Mortlake’s Dunlop Street. It was Fred who first had the idea to make a few pies to sell. Word is, the pies were good, and people came from far and wide to get one from the café.
In time, Fred and Nellie’s son Alan, and his wife Jessie, joined the business and it soon expanded to deliver pies, pasties and sausage rolls throughout the local area.
More than 70 years later, third and fourth-generation members of the family are still making pies at that same location!

With our own fleet of vehicles, our delivery areas include:
- South-West Victoria including Warrnambool, Portland & Hamilton areas
- The Otways including Colac and Geelong
- Central Victoria including Ballarat and the Wimmera
- South-East South Australia
And of course you can find our range in Clarke's Cafe in Mortlake. Lindsay and Peter Kain now own and operate Clarke’s Café at 94 Dunlop Street, right in front of the bakery premises.
The café has been a separate business from the wholesale bakery operation since 2007. It has been a popular stop on the Hamilton Highway for decades and is one of the best places to grab a hot pie! You can also pick up some cold ones for your freezer.
